Big Gifts for Small Groups

Do you have board members who are less than motivated to raise money for your organization? Well, this book may be part of the answer. Andy Robinson has written an excellent introduction to fundraising geared specifically toward board members. It is titled Big Gifts for Small Groups: A Board Member's 1-Hour Guide to Securing Gifts of $500 to $5000.

Robinson's intention was to give board members a concise primer on fundraising to help them feel more confident as they move forward with their fundraising goals. I think that it really does have the potential to help those board members who have trepidation regarding their fundraising obligations. Why? Because Robinson provides an accessible step-by-step approach that makes the reader feel like anyone can fundraise.

Robinson de-mystifies the art of fundraising: he asks the reader to look at his or her own relationship with philanthropy, blows a lot of common misperceptions about fundraising out of the water, and then summarizes what every board member needs to do to solicit gifts in an easy-to-absorb way.

This book took me exactly 50 minutes to read. So, when your board member gives you the I-just-do-not-have-time excuse, you can tell them that someone you know read it in less than an hour and she had a cat and a one-year-old competing for her attention!
